Mehzenet: Friendship link between Keren and Trondheim

Since 1992 Trondheim has been engaged in a friendship link with Keren, the second largest city of Eritrea. During the first years the citadel of Heimdal was responsible on the Norwegian side. Keren on their side have kept a friendship committee through those years.

The aims of the link are to build awareness, to maintain co-operation based on partnership and exchange, and to improve the quality of life in the two cities. Since 1992, children of Keren and Trondheim have exchanged many letters; three sanitation trucks and equipment for the disabled have been sent to Keren; art has been formed by joint efforts of Eritreans and Norwegians – to name a few of the activities. In 2002 the Mayor of Trondheim accepted an invitation from the Mayor of Keren to visit the friendship city.  Great celebration took place at Keren Stadium. Many people in both countries have been touched and changed by these activities, and they have built lasting friendship.
